Timuçin Sönmez, President of the Ankara Jewelers and Watchmakers Chamber, stated that second-press gold offered for sale at lower prices in the market has recently begun to spread, and that consumers must be careful because it is difficult to distinguish from the original.
Sönmez, in his statement, warned about second-press gold, quarter, half, or Republic gold coins minted outside the Mint in unauthorized workshops with molds resembling the originals.
Emphasizing that minting and putting gold into circulation outside the Mint is legally prohibited, Sönmez said there is a risk of low purity in second-press gold.

Sönmez said that although it may look very similar to the original, because there may be a decrease in purity or weight, jewelers can notice this during exchange or may buy the gold below its value, and spoke as follows:
"The details of gold minted this way are generally less clear or rougher than Mint minting, but mostly expert jewelers can tell this with precise purity testing devices. Because second-press gold has low purity, the Atatürk figure and other inscriptions may not come out clearly during printing. This can be evidence. Also, the hardness of the product can indicate this, but citizens may not be able to distinguish it."

Sönmez also drew attention to the points to consider when buying gold and noted the following:
"To avoid suffering a loss when buying gold, we recommend choosing trusted, corporate, and well-established jewelers. Our citizens buying gold should pay attention to whether the company has its own box, its name written on the ribbon, or small labels. In addition, it is of great importance that they do not forget to get documents such as the gold's receipt or invoice."
