The management of the Kingdom Center skyscraper in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has made working from home mandatory for employees in the building until further notice, during days when Houthi attacks escalated.
According to DW, citing AFP, the management of the Kingdom Center skyscraper in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has instructed employees in the building to work from home. The decision was taken amid possible attacks by the Houthis in Yemen.
In the 99-story tower, one of the country's tallest buildings, working from home has been made "mandatory". The management did not explain the reason for the decision. The measure took effect immediately and will continue until further notice.
Among the building's tenants are major financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and asset management company Merrill Lynch. The shopping mall on the lower floors of the tower will remain open for now.
Education in schools in Riyadh and its surroundings will continue online for a second week. The city's King Khalid International Airport remains closed after the Houthi attack in which 13 people were killed or injured.
As the conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-backed Houthis escalates, the coalition announced its first military casualties since the start of the tensions. Two helicopter pilots were killed near the Yemen border due to a "technical malfunction". The Houthis had previously announced that they had shot down an Apache helicopter "belonging to the Saudi enemy".
According to Saudi officials, two drones were shot down over Riyadh overnight, and a third over the oil-rich Eastern Region. Two ballistic missiles were also neutralized in the south of the country.
The two sides have clashed with varying intensity over the past decade. After a four-year ceasefire, the conflict flared up again last month when the Houthis seized strategic areas on the Red Sea coast. While the Houthis target oil facilities, tankers and Riyadh's international airport, the coalition is also carrying out attacks on Houthi areas.
