Avalanche disaster in Palandöken! 16-year-old national judoka lost his life.

During a high-altitude training camp on Mount Palandöken in Erzurum, an avalanche occurred while the national judo team was climbing. In the tragedy, 16-year-old national athlete Emre Yazgan lost his life, and 4 athletes were injured.

The Judo National Team, which is conducting a high-altitude camp on Mount Palandöken in Erzurum, was hit by an avalanche around 10:00 AM while climbing in the Sultan Sekisi area. Some athletes from the 15-member Judo National Team were caught under the snow mass.

16-YEAR-OLD NATIONAL ATHLETE DIED

A large number of AFAD, UMKE, gendarmerie, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the area. Among the athletes trapped under the snow, 1 was seriously injured and 5 others were hurt. The national judoka Emre Yazgan (16), who was rescued from the snow mass at several meters deep, was revived by doctors. Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi reported that Yazgan, who was under treatment in the intensive care unit, passed away despite all interventions. Additionally, it was learned that Yazgan's twin brother was among the injured athletes.
