Due to this heartbreaking negligence, 20-day-old Mihrimah baby lost her life.
The 20-day-old baby Mihrimah Toymuradov, who died suspiciously while being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Emergency Hospital, affiliated with the Ministry of Health in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was buried. The body of Toymuradov, who was taken from the morgue of the hospital where she passed away to the Forensic Medicine Unit yesterday, was laid to rest at Gönyeli Cemetery in Nicosia. The funeral ceremony of Toymuradov was attended by her family, as well as TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and other state officials.
GRIEVING PARENTS SHED TEARS
During the funeral ceremony, father Baha and mother Güneş Toymuradov, who stated that their child was healthy and lost her life due to the hospital's negligence, shed tears. Meanwhile, the findings obtained from the forensic examination of Mihrimah Toymuradov were sent to Istanbul to determine the exact cause of death.
OTHER BABIES' CONDITIONS ARE IMPROVING
On the other hand, officials from the Ministry of Health reported that the health conditions of the 6 babies who were intubated in the same hospital are improving. Families continue to wait at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Emergency Hospital. Authorities announced that specialist doctors have been brought in from other hospitals to support the treatment of the babies.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Emergency Hospital in Nicosia, the capital of the TRNC, 20-day-old Mihrimah Toymuradov lost her life on the evening of October 25, while 6 other babies were intubated. The situation developed after families wanted to enter the hospital due to allegations that nurses on duty in the relevant unit had given medical alcohol instead of liquid food to the babies. The TRNC Ministry of Health announced that the situation had been referred to the judiciary after the death of one baby, and the police detained 5 healthcare workers yesterday evening. Today, the court held the first hearings for the hospital staff Ç.Ş, A.D, G.K.A, K.Y, and M.A., and the court panel granted an additional 3-day detention period.
