Baffling operation in Kapıkule: 2,000 live green algae seized on passenger bus

In a search conducted on a passenger bus entering Turkey at the Kapıkule Border Gate, 2,125 live green algae, which were attempted to be smuggled into the country, were seized. While nearly 500 thousand lira in fines were imposed on 5 people related to the incident, the vehicle was also confiscated.

At the Kapıkule Border Gate, 2,000 live green algae were seized in a passenger bus.

ATTEMPTED TO BE SMUGGLED INTO THE COUNTRY

At the Kapıkule Border Gate, during inspections conducted by the Regional Anti-Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate on a passenger bus, it was determined that a total of 2,125 live green algae of the species "Aegagropila linnaei," weighing 8.5 kilograms, were being attempted to be smuggled into the country. Upon notifying the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, teams from the Fisheries and Aquaculture Branch Directorate carried out an on-site inspection.

474 THOUSAND TL PENALTY

As a result of the inspections, the live green algae and the vehicle used for transport were confiscated pending a decision for public ownership transfer. Additionally, five individuals on the bus were fined a total of 474,055 TL under the Fisheries Law No. 1380.

In a statement by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, it was noted that inspection and control activities for the protection of fishery resources are being carried out decisively.
