Bear panic struck Japan once again. A bear that came down into a residential area in the country's Fukushima Prefecture injured four people. According to information obtained from local authorities; the bear entered the grounds of the Fukushima Steel Factory around 06:30 local time yesterday, first attacking two male employees in their 20s and 60s. Then, the bear fled to another nearby residential area, where it injured an 80-year-old woman living in a house and a 60-year-old man in a building used as an office. While it was announced that the four people injured in the attacks are not in life-threatening condition, it was reported that efforts to capture the bear are ongoing. LAST YEAR, 13 PEOPLE DIED IN BEAR ATTACKS

Bear attacks in Japan last year led to a record number of deaths. According to data from Japan's Ministry of the Environment, a total of 13 people died and 225 were injured in bear attacks during the fiscal year covering April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Compared to the previous year, when 3 people died and 82 were injured, the increase in cases highlighted the scale of the danger posed by bears.
