In the Bayırcık village of the Ardeşen district in Rize, two houses were evacuated as a precaution due to the collapse of a retaining wall, and the neighborhood road was closed to traffic.

The incident occurred in the Cami neighborhood of Bayırcık village, where the collapse of the retaining wall was caused by the effects of melting after heavy snowfall.

RETAINING WALL COLLAPSE

During the collapse, soil and concrete mass flowed onto the road. There were no casualties in the incident, but minor material damage occurred in a house located by the roadside.

2 HOUSES EVACUATED AS A PRECAUTION

Access to the Cami neighborhood, which has approximately 70 households, was closed due to the landslide, and access to the village began to be provided through Güneyköy village. As a precaution due to the risk after the collapse, two houses located at the upper and lower parts of the road were evacuated.

Furthermore, it was learned that a two-tier retaining wall was constructed by the Rize Special Administration following the disaster that occurred in the region in 2024.

Upon notification, officials from the Rize Special Administration and teams from the District Gendarmerie Command were dispatched to the scene. After the initial inspections conducted by the teams, the road was completely closed to traffic due to the ongoing collapse risk, and extensive security measures were taken in the surrounding area.
