Price hikes are coming for smartphones and tablets. Murat Azdemir from Samsung Turkey signaled a new price revision in the technology market, stating that an increase of approximately 25 percent in dollar terms is expected for smartphone and tablet prices due to the extreme rise in global semiconductor costs and geopolitical tensions.

Rising costs and the raw material crisis in global markets continue to be reflected in the price tags of technological devices.

PRICE HIKES AHEAD FOR PHONES AND TABLETS

Most recently, Murat Azdemir, Vice President of Samsung Turkey Mobile Business Unit, stated that they expect another 25 percent increase in smartphone and tablet prices throughout the year.

“LAST WEEK, INCREASES OF UP TO 9 TO 9.5 TIMES DUE TO THE US-IRAN WAR”

Speaking on a live broadcast program he attended, Azdemir used the following statements: “Last week, there were increases of up to 9 to 9.5 times in semiconductor costs due to the war between the US and Iran. Considering that the semiconductor cost in an average smartphone today is between 20 and 25 percent, product costs are rising very rapidly with this price increase. We see price revisions almost every month, and on the chip side, pricing changes every week, so it is not easy to make forward-looking pricing. This seems likely to continue for another 1 to 1.5 years because semiconductor demand is very strong, and product supply has become difficult.

“IN TURKEY, LOGISTIC COSTS AND EXCHANGE RATE DIFFERENCES ARE ADDED ON TOP”

“When we look at the difference between last year and this year, the price change we observe is now 25 percent in dollar terms. We expect the trend to continue this way in the coming period. In Turkey, logistic costs and exchange rate differences are added on top of this, but if we look at the global index, we may see a further price increase of 20 to 25 percent”
