In the Gülistan Doku investigation, which is being widely discussed in Turkey, Handan Sonel, the wife of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who has been arrested, faces one of the most serious allegations in the case. Convicted witness Turan Güler claimed that Handan Sonel gave him 100,000 lira to take and dispose of Gülistan Doku's body, and that her son, Mustafa Türkay Sonel, killed Doku by shooting her twice.
Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development department at Munzur University who has been missing since January 5, 2020, in Tunceli, was arrested under the slogan "Murderers" along with Handan Sonel, wife of former Governor Tuncay Sonel, and Mehmet Aca, owner of ACA IT company, and sent to prison.
DIGITAL DEVICES FROM HER HOME TAKEN FOR EXAMINATION One of the main points emphasized in the prosecution's arrest request was the digital materials seized at Handan Sonel's residence. According to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office letter, 3 mobile phones, 3 tablets, 2 hard drives, a flash drive, an external memory, and a MacBook, which were not found during the search conducted earlier in the investigation against Tuncay Sonel, were seized in a subsequent search.
The prosecution considered that these materials may have been brought to the residence after the first search. It was stated that the digital devices were taken for examination due to the possibility of containing evidence related to the investigation.
Handan Sonel, wife of former Governor Tuncay Sonel "I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT WAS A REAL GUN" During the search at Handan Sonel's home, a SIG Sauer brand pistol and three magazines were also seized. In the prosecution's questioning, it was stated that the gun was not among the weapons registered in Tuncay Sonel's name and no license record was found during the inquiries. Handan Sonel claimed that the pistol was unused and in its box, adding that she did not even know it was a real gun. Sonel stated she did not know whether the gun was given as a gift, nor where or from whom it was obtained, and noted that her husband had two pistols but she was not aware of their license status.
"HE KILLED GÜLİSTAN BY FIRING TWO SHOTS" One of the most serious accusations in the file came from convicted witness Turan Güler. Records show that Güler claimed Handan Sonel gave him 100,000 Turkish lira to take and dispose of Gülistan Doku's body, and that Mustafa Türkay Sonel killed Gülistan Doku by firing two shots. Handan Sonel, however, claimed she did not know Turan Güler and had never even heard his name before. "He doesn't know me, and I don't know him. I did not give 100,000 lira," Sonel said, adding that there is no concrete evidence supporting the witness's claim.
Mehmet Aca, owner of ACA IT company, was also arrested as part of the investigation. HE CLOSED HIS 15-YEAR-OLD LINE AFTER THE OPERATION Handan Sonel's communication history was also examined as part of the investigation. It was determined that Sonel stopped using the phone line registered in her husband's name, which she had used for about 15-20 years, immediately after the operation and her husband's detention as part of the investigation.
The prosecution asked why a new line was taken out in her daughter's name after the operation. Sonel said she did not use her old line to prevent anyone from asking her "weird questions." She stated she thought the confiscated phone would be returned and did not know the old SIM card could be used in another phone.
