In an attack on a military base in Colombia with explosive-laden UAVs, 5 soldiers lost their lives and 33 soldiers were wounded, 8 of them seriously. While significant damage occurred at the military facility, an air-supported operation was launched to capture the attackers.

An attack was carried out with bomb-laden unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on a military base located in the town of Santa Rosa del Sur in the Bolívar department in southern Colombia. According to information reported by El Colombiano, in the attack targeting different points of the military facility, 5 soldiers lost their lives and 33 soldiers were injured, 8 of them seriously. Following the attack, extensive security measures were taken in the region.

MAJOR DESTRUCTION AT MILITARY BASE

In footage stated to have been verified regarding the attack, explosive-laden UAVs were seen targeting the barracks, administrative buildings and infrastructure of the military facility. With the impact of the explosions, the roofs of some buildings collapsed and heavy damage occurred in various parts of the facility.

The First Division of the Colombian Army, stating that the attack was a violation of international humanitarian law and fundamental human rights, announced that an air-supported operation had been launched to find the perpetrators.

HARSH REACTION FROM PRESIDENT

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella condemned the attack and stressed that terrorist acts cannot bring the state to its knees. De la Espriella, stating that he had given instructions to intensify operations to identify and capture those responsible for the attack, said that such acts would further strengthen the country's determination to defend itself.

NO ONE HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ATTACK YET

No armed organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack targeting the military base. While no official statement has been made by security authorities regarding the identity of the individuals or groups that carried out the attack, operations launched in the region are continuing.

TENSION WITH ARMED GROUPS IS ESCALATING

In a statement on November 4, President de la Espriella had ordered the capture or neutralization of leaders of illegal armed structures, especially members of the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). On August 28, the government had ended peace talks with three armed groups, including the ELN and the General Staff of Blocks and Fronts (EMBF), on the grounds that they did not show sufficient will for peace.
