Bribery case against Şile Municipality: The penalty sought for Mayor Kabadayı has been determined.

A lawsuit was filed against the Mayor of Şile, Özgür Kabadayı, seeking a prison sentence of 33 years and 3 months to 92 years on charges of forming a criminal organization, extortion, bribery, and rigging tenders. The indictment was accepted by the court.

A lawsuit has been filed against Şile Municipality Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, who was arrested and suspended from duty as part of the investigation into Şile Municipality, seeking a prison sentence of 33 years and 3 months to 92 years.



INDICTMENT PREPARED



The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Terrorism and Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau into Şile Municipality on charges of "forming an organization to commit crimes," "extortion," "bribery," and "tampering with public tenders" has been completed.





SUSPENDED MAYOR FACES UP TO 92 YEARS IN PRISON



In the prepared indictment, it was requested that Kabadayı be sentenced to 33 years and 3 months to 92 years in prison on charges of "extortion by duress," "forgery of official documents," "fraud by merchants, company executives, or persons acting on behalf of companies during commercial activities, and fraud by cooperative executives within the scope of cooperative activities," "fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations," "accepting bribes," and "forming an organization to commit crimes."





INDICTMENT ACCEPTED



The indictment, which also requested that Kabadayı be separately punished for all acts due to being the ringleader of the organization, was accepted by the Anatolian 27th Heavy Penal Court.





WHAT HAPPENED?



The first operation of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Şile Municipality was carried out on July 10, 2025.





In the operation, six people, including Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, were detained. Kabadayı and municipal executives Oğuz Kaçmaz, Tuncay Tolga Özçakmak, Ali Şafak, and Evren Buçhan were arrested, while Aslı Kotan was released under judicial control.





After his arrest, Özgür Kabadayı was provisionally suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior.





After examining HTS records and MASAK reports, 22 people were detained in a second operation carried out in December 2025, and 15 of them were arrested. Within the scope of the investigation, a third operation was carried out on June 26 in Istanbul and Izmir, and 13 of the 17 detained people were arrested, while 4 people were released under judicial control.
