Former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Bülent Arınç, stated regarding the cancellation of Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma that "those who believe a setup has been orchestrated are not unjustified." Speaking during a live broadcast, Arınç also addressed the arrest decision, saying, "There should be no arrests for people who express their opinions, actions, and political stances. It should be a principle that a mayor of a metropolitan municipality is tried without detention."
Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and one of the founders of the AK Party, Bülent Arınç, made statements that will be widely discussed regarding the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in connection with the corruption investigation against the IMM and the cancellation of his diploma.
STRIKING WORDS ON DIPLOMA CANCELLATION
Arınç stated regarding the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma, "Those who think a trap has been set are not unjustified."
"I WAS TRIED WITHOUT ARREST ON FEBRUARY 28"
Evaluating the arrest decision, Bülent Arınç said, "I was tried without arrest on February 28, Erdoğan was tried without arrest, Erbakan was tried without arrest. After the decision was finalized, they invited me to prison. There should be no arrests for people who express their opinions, actions, and political stances."
GET WELL SOON MESSAGE FOR SIRRI SÜREYYA
Expressing his get well soon message for the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who underwent surgery after an aortic rupture, Arınç said, "We had a meeting in his office in the Parliament recently. Sometimes we talked about politics, sometimes he had an interest in cinema, and we would discuss films. He was a very colorful person, and he associated his colorful nature with sincerity. He was someone who loved his state and nation very much and desired an environment of peace and tranquility. I remember the 2013 Nowruz. He was someone who conveyed Öcalan's message to the public in the previous period. He has gathered a love that very few people will experience, and I am happy about that. We also pray for him, millions are praying."
REACTION TO ÖZEL'S "JUNTA" REMARK
Arınç expressed that he did not find Özel's words about 'junta' to be correct, stating, "The words used are very wrong. They should not target the President and the AK Party. There is no basis for these. I am a much older politician than him. We saw a lot in our time, we suffered a lot. We struggled a lot with the juntas testing us; we are victims of the junta. And we came out of all of them successfully. To use this expression against a civil administration that has been in power for 22 years is almost an accusation of slander. A statement without a basis can only harm them. In situations created by different agendas, these expressions should not be used due to public outrage."
