On February 6, 2023, the sixth hearing of the Grand İsias Hotel case, which became a grave for 72 people including 35 students, teachers, parents, and tour guides from the Gazimağusa Turkish Maarif College's girls' and boys' volleyball teams during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes in Turkey, will be held tomorrow in Adıyaman. The hearings, planned to last two days, are expected to conclude with a decision announcement.

STATEMENT BEFORE THE HEARING

In a written statement made by the Champion Angels Preservation Association before the verdict hearing, it was stated that the families would not abandon the case. The statement noted that the incident at the Grand İsias Hotel was not just a disaster caused by an earthquake, but also a clear result of a chain of irregularities, and demanded accountability from those responsible. The association emphasized that the case is a turning point not only for the families but for all of Turkey, and requested the court to impose the heaviest penalties on the guilty.

"THIS STRUGGLE IS NOT JUST A FAMILY MATTER"

The statement said, "The struggle for justice carries a message for the entire society beyond the anger of losing our loved ones. We will follow this case to the end so that no mother loses her child again." It was expressed that this fight for justice, empowered by the support received from all over Cyprus and Turkey, is not just a family matter, but a matter for all humanity.

"WE REMEMBER THEM WITH EVERY BREATH"

In the statement where it was demanded that those responsible be tried for "possible intent" and receive the heaviest penalties, it was stated, "This case is defined as a struggle for justice that all the people of Turkey should support." The statement emphasized that "Justice will only be realized when the guilty receive the heaviest penalties," and it was highlighted that the struggle would continue until justice is served.

Ruşen Yücesoy Karakaya, the mother of Selin Karakaya, who lost her life in the İsias Hotel, stated before the sixth hearing of the case that they were determined to defend the rights of their children and loved ones. Karakaya noted that she spent every moment in the light of the promise of justice they made to their child, saying, "We remember them with every breath." She emphasized that the struggle would continue for the guilty to be tried for "possible intent" and receive the heaviest penalties they deserve.

"JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED EVENTUALLY"

Karakaya stated that justice is not only limited to holding the past accountable but also requires creating a guarantee that other children and families will not experience such pains in the future, expressing that they would not abandon the case for this reason. Karakaya said, "We have a promise to our angels. Justice will be served eventually."
