Following President Erdogan's instruction to collect municipalities' debts, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan took action and listed the top 5 municipalities with the highest debts to the Social Security Institution (SGK). Minister Işıkhan stated that these municipalities are Ankara with 5.7 billion TL, İzmir with 5.3 billion TL, Istanbul with 3.3 billion TL, Adana with 3 billion TL, and Şişli district municipality with 1.8 billion TL, respectively.
President Erdogan criticized the opposition, who called for an increase in pensions, by referring to the debts of municipalities and said, "If you want to benefit retirees, give instructions for your municipalities to pay their accumulated debts to the Social Security Institution. Our Ministry of Treasury and Finance will start collecting the debts of municipalities. There are no simits for 25 kuruş."
TOTAL DEBT CLOSE TO 100 BILLION TL
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, who took action upon Erdogan's instructions, announced that the total SGK debt of municipalities is close to 100 billion TL and listed the top 5 indebted municipalities.
Minister Işıkhan said, "All 5 municipalities with the highest premium debt to SGK are CHP municipalities. This was also the case before the local elections. We expressed this in our statement before the elections.
ANKARA HAS A DEBT OF 5 BILLION 751 MILLION TL
The total premium debt of municipalities to SGK in Turkey has reached 96 billion TL. 67.7% of these debts belong to CHP municipalities alone. The debt of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which has the highest premium debt to SGK, is 5 billion 751 million TL. When the municipality was taken over from the AK Party in 2019, its debt was 225 million TL, but today it has increased 25.5 times.
Therefore, trying to create confusion and deceive our noble nation with lies by saying "There was an election" is not beneficial to anyone. Our advice to CHP mayors is to pay the insurance premiums that belong to the sweat of the workers as soon as possible. We need to share the issue by only telling the truth based on data and figures, not through political party competition or rhetoric."
