The actor Çetin Altay, who lost his mother in 2021, stated that cirrhosis should not be associated only with alcohol, revealing for the first time that the disease is genetic in his family and that his mother, Sadiye Altay, passed away because of it.
Çetin Altay, who gained fame with films like 'The Code of Oflu Hoca', 'The Code of Sümela', and 'Write Me a Heist', was a guest on the Haber Bahane program hosted by Gökay Kalaycıoğlu in the Haberler.com studio. Altay shared for the first time with the public the cause of death of his mother, whom he lost in 2021. He stated that his mother passed away due to cirrhosis and expressed that the disease is genetically present in his family.
"IT'S HEREDITARY IN OUR FAMILY"
In his statement, Altay emphasized that cirrhosis should not only be associated with alcohol. He mentioned that he later learned the disease is common in his family, saying, "My father also had it. Then I learned from the elders in the family that it was seen in my grandmother and other relatives," he said. After learning this information, Altay stated that he also started health check-ups and mentioned that he undergoes regular screenings.
Emphasizing that cirrhosis can be related not only to alcohol but also to environmental and nutritional factors, Altay stated, "Those who work in dusty environments like carpenters, those who live in damp houses for long periods, and people with an unbalanced diet can also develop this disease. My mother was very fond of junk food. She consumed candies, chocolates... She ate all of them," he expressed.
