New details have emerged regarding the death of 16-year-old Mahir Buğra Karagön, who was electrocuted while working at a pastry shop where he was interning in Hatay. Another student interning at the same workplace stated that he was also electrocuted at the same spot the day before the incident, that Karagön was told to help the electrician despite it not being his duty, and that the shop continued sales until midnight after the death.

In the incident that took place on May 1 at Saray Pastanesi, located in the Modernevler District of İskenderun, Hatay, 16-year-old Mahir Buğra Karagön, a 10th grade student at the Vocational Education Center (MESEM) Food and Beverage Services department, lost his life due to electric shock while doing his internship at the workplace.

ELECTRICIAN ARRESTED

Regarding the incident, a person named H.Y., who handled the electrical work at the workplace, was taken into custody by police. The individual, taken into custody on charges of manslaughter, was arrested by the judicial authorities.

ANOTHER INTERN WAS ALSO ELECTRIC SHOCKED THE DAY BEFORE

The female intern who was doing her internship together with Karagön at the pastry shop described the events of the day. The student stated that she had been electric shocked at the same spot the day before the incident.

A.A., a MESEM student doing an internship at the pastry shop, also said, "The pastry shop owner told my friend to help the electrician even though it was not his job."

"THE PASTRY SHOP OWNER SAID 'LET'S TURN OFF THE FUSE,' THE ELECTRICIAN SAID 'NO NEED'"

A.A., a MESEM student doing an internship at the pastry shop where the incident occurred, stated that she had been electric shocked at the same spot the day before, and that the electrician who came to the workplace said there was no current, adding, "It happened in the workshop of the pastry shop. Because I was electric shocked the day before, they lowered the shelf. Then the workplace owner called the electrician. They lowered the shelf and checked whether there was an electric current. Then the electrician said there was no current. The pastry shop owner said we needed to turn off the fuse to put the shelf back in place. But the electrician said this was not necessary and refused."

"DESPITE THE INCIDENT, SALES CONTINUED UNTIL MIDNIGHT"

Claiming that the workplace owner told Buğra to help the electrician, A.A. described the moment her friend lost his life, saying, "Even though it was not my friend's job, the pastry shop owner told him to help the electrician. The boy was frozen at that moment; Buğra screamed. The masters thought his finger was stuck. Then his colleague touched him and realized he was being electric shocked. At that moment, Buğra started foaming at the mouth. After contact was broken, he lost consciousness. I called an ambulance. The workplace owner, along with others, carried Buğra from where he was. I immediately checked his pulse. He wasn't breathing; Buğra was in a very bad state at that moment. After the ambulance left, the masters continued working. Sales continued. The news of his death came around 2 o'clock. Despite what happened to my friend, the pastry shop continued selling and working throughout the night until 12 o'clock. While the ambulance was there, I was alone in front of it. After the ambulance left, they called me back to the production area to work. Then they told me I needed to attend to customers. Later, they said I needed to clean the scene."
