New details have emerged regarding the murder of 32-year-old Sultan Akdemir, who was killed with a pistol by her estranged husband Ersan Akdemir in Diyarbakır. The family's lawyer, Feyza Nur Işık, stated that Sultan Akdemir had been subjected to physical violence by her husband and his mother approximately 20 days before the incident and that she had reported it to the police. Lawyer Işık indicated that they want an investigation into who procured the weapon and whether anyone helped Ersan Akdemir escape.
Family lawyer Feyza Nur Işık for Sultan Akdemir (32), who was killed with a gun by her estranged husband Ersan Akdemir (30) during divorce proceedings in Diyarbakır, said, "Approximately 20 days before the incident, there was another argument between Sultan and the perpetrator. The perpetrator and his mother invited Sultan to their home, where they physically assaulted her. Sultan then went to the police. We want to uncover how the perpetrator obtained the weapon and who supplied it, as well as who helped him during his escape. How involved is his family? Is there truly any complicity or not? We want all of this to be brought together."
SHE WANTED TO TAKE THE CHILD AND LEAVE
The incident occurred on the evening of August 26 in front of a park on İstasyon Boulevard in Şehitlik Neighborhood. Sultan Akdemir, who had been living apart from her husband Ersan Akdemir, from whom she was divorcing due to violence for about 2 months, went to the meeting spot after he called her there under the pretext of seeing their child. Ersan Akdemir wanted to take the child and leave with him. An argument then broke out between the couple. At that moment, Ersan Akdemir drew the gun he had brought and fired at his wife Sultan repeatedly. As the bullets struck her and she collapsed to the ground, the attacker took his child and fled the area. Upon reports from bystanders, medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured Sultan Akdemir was taken to Dicle University Hospital after initial intervention. Despite treatment, Sultan could not be saved. After autopsy procedures at the Forensic Medicine Institute, Sultan's body was buried in Yeniköy Asri Cemetery.
Ersan Akdemir was caught and detained through the efforts of teams from the Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Branch of the Provincial Police Department. After police procedures, he was referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested and sent to prison.
MOMENT OF INCIDENT ON SECURITY CAMERA
Meanwhile, the incident was captured on the security camera of a nearby business. The footage shows moments when Ersan Akdemir drew his gun while Sultan Akdemir tried to grab her husband's hand, a brief scuffle occurred between the couple, and after Sultan Akdemir fell to the ground, Ersan Akdemir took the child and fled.
"SHE WAS BEATEN 20 DAYS EARLIER"
Sultan Akdemir's family lawyer Feyza Nur Işık stated that the murder was not an isolated incident and said, "We believe Sultan's murder is the product of a cycle, a chain of violence. Sultan had a 4-year marriage with her husband. But recently, because they were going through divorce, they constantly had disagreements. Unfortunately, like all women in this country, Sultan struggled during the divorce and separation process because her ex-husband repeatedly insisted she not divorce him. About 20 days before the incident, there was another argument between Sultan and the perpetrator, and around 20 days prior, the perpetrator and his mother invited Sultan to their home. This wasn't the first such invitation; Sultan had been called there many times before. We believe this death was the result of premeditation. In other words, we think this murder was carried out as a result of planning. About 20 days earlier, she was invited to the house, and there they physically assaulted Sultan. Sultan then went to the police."
"THE TRAUMA THE CHILD EXPERIENCED CAN LAST A LIFETIME"
Stating that the couple's child is under the ministry's care, Işık said, "On the evening of the incident, Sultan was initially walking with two young relative children. Then, Sultan, perhaps sensing something, sent those children back and went to the perpetrator with her own child. While they were arguing, the perpetrator drew his gun and cold-bloodedly shot Sultan, causing her death at the scene. He left a trauma that may persist for years in a young child. Therefore, this situation is, first of all, something deeply offensive to conscience. A child's traumatic process may affect them as a lifelong issue. Currently, the joint child is under the ministry's care."
'THE PERPETRATOR USED HIS RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT'
Lawyer Feyza Nur Işık, noting that Ersan Akdemir used his right to remain silent during the investigation, said:
"The perpetrator is under arrest, but unfortunately, he has used his right to remain silent and stated he does not want to give any statement at this stage. During the investigation, we submitted our necessary requests to the prosecutor's office to gather many pieces of evidence. Our greatest expectation from the law, the court, and the prosecutor's office is to uncover how the perpetrator obtained the weapon and who supplied it, as well as who helped him during his escape. How involved is his family? Is there truly any complicity or not? We want all this to be brought together. I believe the public's interest in this regard will be beneficial for Sultan's case."
