Recently, over 600 citizens in Kocaeli were poisoned due to chicken döner, causing an uproar. Gastroenterology Specialist Prof. Dr. Vedat Göral made some critical warnings regarding the dangers of chicken döner, one of the most consumed street delicacies. He stated that consuming improperly cooked chicken meat can lead to very serious poisoning cases and advised citizens to be cautious.
OLD CHICKENS ARE BEING MIXED IN
In statements to NTV regarding the issue, Prof. Dr. Vedat Göral explained that chicken döner should not be consumed everywhere, as previously cooked chicken döner pieces are mixed in with the new chicken döner being prepared, increasing the risk of poisoning.
COOKING TECHNIQUE
Göral emphasized the importance of the cooking process, stating, "During proper cooking, internal temperature control should not be neglected. The internal temperature of the chicken meat must reach at least 75°C. Chicken pieces should be cooked evenly."
"BLEACHED WITH BLEACH"
Göral highlighted that even spoiled chicken pieces that should be thrown away are used in döner preparation, saying, "Sometimes chicken pieces are bleached with bleach. Spoiled chicken pieces that should be thrown away are used in chicken döner preparation. This is an extremely unethical and wrong method. It is like an attempt to kill. Human health should never be compromised. Such businesses should be thoroughly and regularly inspected by the municipality and health authorities."
2 PEOPLE IN SERIOUS CONDITION
On the other hand, some individuals who purchased chicken döner at a business on Atatürk Street in Körfez district of Kocaeli experienced symptoms of nausea and vomiting. A total of 648 people showing signs of poisoning were treated at Körfez State Hospital, Derince Training and Research Hospital, and Dilovası State Hospital. After the interventions, the patients were discharged, but it was learned that the condition of 2 individuals was serious.
BUSINESS OWNERS ARRESTED
It was learned that the operators of the döner shop involved in the incident, identified as E.T. and K.Y., have been arrested.
