As Iran continues its retaliatory actions targeting Gulf countries where Washington and Tel Aviv's bases are located amid the US and Israeli attacks, a notable message has come from China to Tehran. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the sovereignty and security of the Gulf countries, which are being targeted despite not being parties to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, should be respected.
According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Wang Yi held phone conversations with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.
"THE SOVEREIGNTY, SECURITY, AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF THE GULF COUNTRIES MUST BE RESPECTED" During his conversation with his Kuwaiti counterpart Al-Sabah, Wang emphasized that the war triggered by the attacks of the United States and Israel on Iran has harmed all parties and should never have happened, stating, "The sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Gulf countries must be respected, and every attack on innocent civilians and non-military targets must be condemned."
Wang expressed that China appreciates the calls for dialogue and negotiations from the Gulf countries, stating, "Achieving a ceasefire and ending the conflict as soon as possible should be an urgent priority." Minister Wang noted that China will continue its efforts for peace, and the Special Representative for the Middle East, Cai Jun, who was sent to the region, has already begun contacts.
Wang Yi "THE FUNDAMENTAL SOLUTION IS TO RETURN TO THE RIGHT PATH WHERE EVERYONE ABIDES BY INTERNATIONAL LAW" In his conversation with Bahraini counterpart Al-Zayani, Wang expressed deep concern over the rapidly rising tensions in the Gulf region, stating, "Military operations must be stopped immediately, and the further spread of the conflict must be prevented. The way to overcome this impasse is to return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible and to strive for peace. The fundamental solution is for everyone to return to the right path where they abide by international law and the basic norms of international relations."
Wang emphasized that China, as a strategic partner of the Gulf countries and a responsible major country, effectively supports the cessation of conflicts and the establishment of peace, and will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring peace and stability in the Gulf region.
US-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN While negotiations were ongoing between Tehran and Washington, Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28. Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in several regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel. In the US-Israel attacks, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with many high-ranking officials, was killed. According to Iranian officials, 1,332 people lost their lives in the US-Israel attacks.
