China continues to increase its influence on the global stage. This time, Beijing warned that it would retaliate not only against the United States but also against countries that cooperate in a way that jeopardizes the interests of both Washington and Beijing.
The mutual escalation of threats in global trade is increasingly growing. Previously, Beijing took retaliatory steps against the United States one after another, but this time it also warned countries that stand by the U.S. against China. Beijing warned that it would retaliate not only against the U.S. but also against countries that cooperate in a way that jeopardizes the interests of Washington and Beijing. China's warning came as reports indicated that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to use tariff negotiations to pressure U.S. partners to limit their relations with China.
This month, Trump paused significant tariff increases on other countries for 90 days while raising tariffs on goods from China by 145%.
"WE WILL TAKE COUNTERMEASURES"
In a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, it was said, "China is absolutely against any party reaching an agreement that is detrimental to China's interests," and it was noted that in such a case, China would not accept it and would resolutely take countermeasures. The ministry warned that the return of international trade to "the law of the jungle" poses risks for all countries. The statement also mentioned that China is willing to work with all parties and "defend international justice and fairness," while the actions of the U.S. were characterized as "abuse of tariffs" and "unilateral bullying."
