In Istanbul, after the Mayor of Eyüpsultan, Mithat Bülent Özmen, was arrested on charges of 'rigging the tenders of public institutions or organizations,' 'accepting bribes,' and 'being a member of an organization established to commit crimes,' and then removed from office, attention turned to the election for acting mayor.
