In 2010, the Social Democratic Populist Party (SHP), which ceased to exist by merging with the Equality and Democracy Party, returned to the political scene after a 14-year hiatus. With the reestablishment of the SHP, all eyes turned to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who expressed his desire to continue active politics at every opportunity.

THE ADDRESS WAS ALSO REPORTED

According to the information on the official website of the Court of Cassation Prosecutor's Office, the party was reestablished as of June 28, 2024. The address of the newly established SHP was reported to the Court of Cassation as "Meşrutiyet Mahallesi, Karanfil Sokak, Çankaya, Ankara."

ESTABLISHED FOR THE THIRD TIME

In 1995, the SHP dissolved its institutional identity under the leadership of Murat Karayalçın and joined the CHP. In 2002, Karayalçın reestablished the party and brought together the Deniz Baykal dissidents in the CHP. Karayalçın left the SHP and became the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality candidate for the CHP in 2009, and Hüseyin Ergün took over the leadership. Ergün merged the party with the Equality and Democracy Party (EDP) in 2010. Thus, the SHP was established for the third time.

KARAYALÇIN SAID "I DO NOT APPROVE"

The discussions about the changes in the CHP after the May 2023 elections brought up the claim that the SHP would be reestablished. Former SHP Chairman Murat Karayalçın, on the other hand, said, "If there are those who think that the SHP should be reopened as the last party leader, I will not be with them and I do not approve of it."

ALL EYES ON KILIÇDAROĞLU

After the reestablishment of the SHP after 14 years, all eyes turned to former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. It is not yet known to what extent Kılıçdaroğlu is involved in the establishment of the SHP, despite his constant criticism of the government and his expressed desire to continue active politics.
