The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, visited the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, which is run by the DEM Party. Özel met with Co-Chairs Ayşe Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun, presenting them with a gift of mesir paste. While giving the gift, Özel stated, "I brought mesir paste to keep you strong against the trustees."

"ELECTIONS SHOULD BE HELD INSTEAD OF APPOINTING TRUSTEES"

During his continued visits in Diyarbakır, Özel visited the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality. In the municipality, which was taken over from the trustees by the DEM Party with 64.09% of the votes in the March 31 local elections, Özel was welcomed in the office by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Chairs Ayşe Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun. Özel stated that he brought mesir paste as a gift from Manisa, saying, "I brought mesir paste to keep you strong against the trustees."

Özel emphasized that the practice of dismissing mayors through KHKs should come to an end, stating that instead of appointing trustees in cases of confirmed prison sentences, elections should be held in the municipal council. Özel said, "This is not democracy, and it is not suitable for the spirit of today or the expectations of the day."
