Explosions in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, have caused concern, and the first official statement came from Venezuela's neighbor Colombia. Colombian President Gustavo Petro said, "Caracas is currently under attack. They have attacked Venezuela. They are bombing with missiles. The OAS and the UN must convene immediately."
As tensions between the US and Venezuela reach a peak, aircraft and loud explosion sounds were heard in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, followed by the sighting of smoke. It was reported that after the explosions, people in many neighborhoods left their homes and headed to the streets, with explosion sounds clearly heard from a distance in some areas.
LOW-FLYING AIRCRAFT CAUSED GREAT PANIC
Aircraft observed flying low also caused panic throughout the city. A power outage occurred in the southern part of the city, near a large military base. No official statement has yet been made by either side.
US CLAIM
The explosions occurred at a time when US President Donald Trump had raised the possibility of ground attacks against Venezuela, deploying a naval task force to the Caribbean. It was claimed that the explosions could be linked to a US airstrike.
