The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan has generated widespread resonance in Iran. Nournews, affiliated with Iran's Supreme National Security Council, assessed that the trilateral pact signals a reduction in security dependence on the US and the emergence of a new regional security order, while also noting that the agreement could complicate Israel's calculations in the region.

Nournews, the official publication of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, published an analysis examining the implications of the agreement on the regional security equation.
SECURITY DEPENDENCE ON THE US IS DECREASING
In the analysis published by Nournews, attention was drawn to the main objectives and background of the agreement. It was stated that this cooperation among the three countries is an indication of the effort of regional actors to reduce their security dependence on the US and to turn towards their own internal dynamics.
The report stated that this step is a continuation of the quadrilateral meeting previously held in Amman with the participation of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye. It was emphasized that this process, which also addressed the security of strategic waterways, stems from growing doubts about the reliability of the US in the region.
NEW REGIONAL SECURITY ORDER
According to the Iran-based analysis, this shift towards regional security agreements indicates that the US position in West Asia is gradually weakening. The report listed the prominent outcomes of these steps taken by regional countries as follows:
- The role of the US as the decisive actor solely shaping regional security is progressively weakening.
- Countries are focusing on developing their own local and regional security mechanisms instead of being externally dependent.
- These steps lay the foundation for a new regional order independent of external interventions.
IMPACT ON ISRAEL'S REGIONAL CALCULATIONS
It was stated that the defense pact among the three countries serves a purpose beyond a mere military agreement, aiming to affect regional balances.
In the Nournews assessment, it was noted that this established security framework could disrupt and complicate Israel's calculations to destabilize Islamic countries in the region, including Türkiye and Pakistan. It was also recorded that the progress of Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia on the path of regional independence offers a significant opportunity to strengthen local security.
MECCA JOINT DEFENSE AGREEMENT
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the "Joint Defense Agreement" between their countries in Mecca yesterday.
The agreement constitutes defense-oriented cooperation that does not target any country and aims to strengthen commitments to preserving regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity based on burden-sharing and a common security understanding.
The agreement, which aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three states will be considered an attack against all.
The agreement also has the nature of a defense-oriented arrangement aimed at enhancing defense industry cooperation and military interoperability, in addition to the commitment of the three countries to support each other's security.
