Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör commented on the protests that took place following the detention and subsequent arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating, "What is happening in the streets is not the actions of marauders or vandals, but a dignified people's struggle to demand their rights."

Protests erupted following the detention and subsequent arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu. Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör made a striking statement regarding the protests.

In a video shared on his social media account, Şengör stated, "I have been following the irrational actions of a government that fears its people with great concern for days."

"IT IS A STRUGGLE FOR THE DIGNIFIED PEOPLE TO CLAIM THEIR RIGHTS"

Şengör, who said, "These actions are trying to cover up the expression of our people's overflowing patience," added, "This is very dangerous; it should not be done. What is happening in the streets is not the actions of looters or vandals, but a struggle for the dignified people to claim their rights."

"TURKEY IS NO LONGER A RULE OF LAW STATE"

Turkey is no longer a rule of law state. Those who say Turkey is a rule of law state are unfortunately no longer telling the truth. No one believes this anymore. Turkey needs to find a way to clear its name. For this, it is very beneficial for the government to regain its senses as quickly as possible."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, was detained in a 'corruption' investigation and was issued a detention order by the Criminal Court of Peace to which he was referred with a request for arrest.

Following İmamoğlu's arrest, he was suspended from duty by the decision of the Ministry of Interior, and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council elected Nuri Aslan as the mayor.

İmamoğlu's detention and arrest led to protests in many cities.
