Sergen Yalçın, who is currently a football commentator, recounted the incident that led to him sidelining Jeremain Lens during his time as the head coach of Beşiktaş. Describing the meeting he had with Lens, Yalçın said, "You will be shocked," before sharing the response the Dutch player gave him.
Continuing his career as a commentator, coach Sergen Yalçın explained for the first time the reason for sidelining Jeremain Lens during his time as the head coach of Beşiktaş.
"I ASKED LENS 'WHY AREN'T YOU WORKING?'"
Sergen Yalçın stated that he called Lens to his office one day and wanted to talk a bit. He described the dialogue between them as follows: "I asked Lens, 'Why aren't you working at all in training?' My question was very simple. 'You played in the Premier League, you came from there. If your training tempo was like that there, what would they do to you?' I said. 'They would immediately sideline me. They wouldn't even include me in the squad,' he replied.

'So, why aren't you doing it here, brother?' I asked. Do you know what he told me? You won't believe it, you will be shocked when you hear the answer.
