The Mayor of Esenyurt, Ahmet Özer, was arrested by the duty magistrate on the grounds of being a member of the PKK armed terrorist organization. Following the news of the arrest, a critical call came from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated in a post on his social media account, "Those who gave a clean certificate to our Mayor of Esenyurt, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, 6 months ago, have today arrested our Mayor with abstract allegations and statements from a book he wrote years ago. Undoubtedly, the real target is the will of our citizens in Esenyurt. We will certainly show the strongest reaction to these actions and thwart this disgusting plan that disrespects the preferences of the people and does not recognize the nation, we will defeat this vile mind," he said. "WE WILL FOLLOW THE DEVELOPMENTS ON NOVEMBER 1-2-3 IN ISTANBUL"Özel announced in his post that he has canceled the camp to be held in Antalya on November 1-3, stating, "We have informed our MPs to go to Istanbul, and I have also called for an extraordinary meeting of our Central Executive Board tomorrow at 1:30 PM at our Esenyurt District Presidency. We will come together in Istanbul on November 1-2-3 to evaluate the developments with our MPs. We will also convene our Party Council in Istanbul on Sunday, November 3. Additionally, I invite all the people of Esenyurt and all Istanbul residents to the front of Esenyurt Municipality tomorrow at 4:00 PM," he expressed. CHP MAYOR ARRESTEDIn the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, Özer, who was detained in the investigation aimed at identifying the members and activities of the terrorist organization PKK/KCK, completed his proceedings at the magistrate. Following his statement here, it was decided to arrest Özer by the duty peace criminal magistrate on the charge of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization." In the scope of the investigation, it was determined that Özer committed the alleged crime by establishing an organic connection with the organization’s leaders through communication records obtained as a result of wiretapping, physical surveillance reports, bank account movements, and intense and continuous contact. Upon the request of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a search warrant was issued by the Istanbul Duty Peace Criminal Magistrate. Suspect Özer was detained this morning, and searches were conducted at his home, workplace, and vehicle.
