Israel blamed the Hezbollah Movement in Lebanon for the attack in Mecdel Şems, while Hezbollah denied the allegations that it was behind the attack. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, in his statement in Mecdel Şems on July 28, said that Hezbollah, which he claimed was behind the attack, would "pay a heavy price." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also stated in his statement in Mecdel Şems on July 29 that they would give a "harsh response" to the attack.

ISRAEL TARGETED HIZBULLAH COMMANDER IN BEIRUT

About 24 hours after Netanyahu's statement, the Israeli army carried out an airstrike on a building in the Dahiye district of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. It was reported that Fuad Şükür, a senior commander of Hezbollah, was targeted in the attack on July 30. The Israeli army claimed responsibility for the attack in its statement and announced that Şükür had been killed. The Hezbollah Movement did not confirm that senior commander Şükür was killed in the attack.

FINALLY, "HANIYE" ASSASSINATION

Shortly after this attack, in the early hours of July 31, Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniye was assassinated in Tehran, the capital of Iran. While Haniye was killed in the attack, Iran and Hamas stated that Israel was behind the attack.
