A leak in a truck carrying chemical substances in the Hendek district of Sakarya caused panic. After the leak started on the D-100 highway, teams cordoned off the area, and 2 people affected by the spreading gas were taken to the hospital.
A leak occurred in a truck carrying hydrochloric acid from Kocaeli to Zonguldak in the Hendek district of Sakarya. Two people affected by the chemical spread from the leak were taken to the hospital, while teams took security precautions in the area.
CHEMICAL LEAKED FROM TRUCK
According to the information obtained, a leak occurred while the truck with license plate 41 AET 051, driven by C.Ç., was carrying hydrochloric acid from Kocaeli to Zonguldak.
Upon the warning of those around, the driver pulled the truck off the D-100 highway onto a side road and stopped it in front of the Hendek Small Industrial Site.
2 PEOPLE AFFECTED
Upon the report, health, fire brigade, police, gendarmerie, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area. B.G. and S.A., who were in the area due to the leak, were affected by the chemical substance.
The 2 people, who were stated to have been affected through inhalation, were taken to Hendek State Hospital and treated. It was learned that the condition of the injured was good.
AREA CLEANED BUT ROAD CLOSED UNTIL MORNING
While teams initiated cleaning work in the area, residents were also warned not to go outside as a precaution.
Sedat Demirel, President of the Hendek Small Industrial Site Cooperative, stated that two people experienced respiratory problems due to the gas formed initially and said that the teams completed the cleaning work.
Demirel stated that the road would be kept closed to traffic until morning for control purposes, while also noting that precautions were taken against the possibility that the water used in cleaning could indirectly reach the Uludere Stream.
