The indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office described the incident that took place on July 27, 2023, in Bahçelievler. The indictment stated that an investigation was initiated upon receiving information that a person was found dead in the stairwell on the day of the incident. It was stated that Arpapay's wrists were tied and there were signs of beating on his head and back. ENTRIES TO THE DAILY RENTAL APARTMENT WERE CAPTURED ON CAMERAThe indictment stated that it was later determined that the person found in the stairwell was Murat Arpapay, and the autopsy revealed that Arpapay's wrists were tied and there were signs of beating on his head and back. The security camera footage examined regarding the incident revealed that Arpapay entered the building with a woman on July 26, and the woman left the building on the same day, but it was later determined that 3 suspects entered the building. The indictment also revealed that the woman who entered the building with Murat Arpapay was Muhterem Perçikli. SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF AS A WOMAN TO THE PERSON SHE MET ONLINEIn the indictment containing her statement regarding the incident, the defendant Muhterem Perçikli said, "I don't know the deceased. About a week before the incident date, Serpil Demir took me to a cafe in Şirinevler. There, she introduced me to three individuals named Azad, Fatih, and Doğan. Azad said he wanted to introduce me to a wealthy middle-aged man. He told me that they met this person online and that he introduced himself as a woman." "HE COVERED HIS MOUTH WITH ETHER-SOAKED CLOTH"A few days later, we met Murat at the cafe. Azad, Doğan, and Fatih were watching us at the same cafe. After having some drinks, Murat went home. On July 26, Serpil and Azad took me to the daily rental apartment they had previously rented. When Murat arrived at the apartment, Serpil, Doğan, and Fatih were there, but Azad was not. Fatih and Doğan attacked Murat. Doğan covered Murat's mouth with a cloth soaked in ether. Murat resisted, so Fatih and Doğan beat him. They tied his hands with plastic handcuffs. I saw a syringe in Fatih's hand. He tried to inject it into Murat. Serpil and I got scared and went to another room. When we came out of the room after a while, Murat was lying motionless. Fatih and Doğan said, 'If you tell anyone anything, this will be your fate.' I left because I received a phone call. After work, I met my friend Serpil. Serpil told me that the man died and they left his body on the stairs on the upper floor, that Fatih and Doğan escaped to Cyprus, and that Azad went to the victim's house to find the large amount of money." "HE THREATENED TO KILL ME IF I TOLD ANYONE"Perçikli, who also stated that Azad did not find any money at the house, said, "A few days later, Azad took Serpil and me to Pendik. He asked me to say that I met the person online, met in Şirinevler, but when I left him and went home, he followed me all the way to my house and entered, and to say that I closed the door. He said he would hire a lawyer and threatened to kill me if I told anyone." In her statement, the defendant Serpil Demir said, "We went to the daily rental apartment we rented on July 26. Later, Fatih, Doğan, and Azad came. They said they were going to Cyprus for vacation and came to say goodbye. No one else entered or left the house. Muhterem left the house to go to work at around 8:00 PM. I also left the house with Fatih and Doğan around 4:30 AM. I did not see where and how Murat Arpapay was killed. I have no connection to the matter." The indictment stated that it was determined that the suspects Fatih Erginoğlu and Doğan Sarıyıldız entered the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on July 27 and arrest warrants were issued for them. It was also stated in the indictment that another defendant, Ersen Başak, also known as Azad, went to Georgia and a red notice was issued for him. THEY ROBBED THE HOUSE USING FORCEThe indictment stated that all the defendants acted together by prior agreement under the instruction of Ersen Başak, also known as Azad, and brought the victim to the apartment where the incident took place, used force to render him helpless, and acted together to rob his house, causing his death. 25 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT REQUESTEDAccording to the prepared indictment, Doğan Sarıyıldız, Ersen Başak, Fatih Erginoğlu, Muhterem Perçikli, and Serpil Demir were requested to be sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 2 years and 6 months to 11 years and 3 months for the crime of "attempted robbery with more than one person in a dwelling." They were also requested to be sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 20 years to 25 years for the crime of "intentional homicide." The defendants will appear before the court in the coming days within the scope of the accepted indictment. SHE SHARED A VIDEO ON SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER THE MURDERFurthermore, it was revealed that a few days after the murder, Muhterem Perçikli shared a video on her social media account with the statement, "I didn't want to be this bad. But when a person is broken, they have nothing to lose, and a woman who has nothing to lose can do anything." Commenting on the prepared indictment, Şefika Arpapay, the mother of the victim, stated through her lawyer Burak Mert Aktaş, "Murat Arpapay was strangled to death by the defendants. In this case, we believe that the type of intent involved in the crime is direct intent rather than possible intent. It is evident from the file that all the defendants committed this crime in unity of thought and action, and the death of the victim occurred as a result of a planning process. 3 defendants are still fugitives and are abroad. We hope that the efforts to apprehend the fugitive defendants and deliver them to the Turkish justice system will yield positive results as soon as possible." "TORTURE TO DEATH"Lawyer Can Akşahin stated, "It is evident that there is a deliberate act of torture to death. We will make efforts to ensure that the defendants are punished for the crime of intentional homicide in the trial to be conducted by the court".
