DEM Party İmralı delegation: We are much more hopeful than in previous processes.

After the Ministry of Justice granted permission, the expected meeting took place on İmralı Island. DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Van MP Pervin Buldan went to İmralı Island on Saturday morning to meet with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan.

THERE WILL BE A SECOND MEETING

In a statement made by the delegation after the meeting with terrorist leader Öcalan, it was also noted that there would be a second meeting on İmralı.

STATEMENT FROM PERVİN BULDAN

DEM Party MP Pervin Buldan stated that they would start meeting with the parties in the Parliament after the New Year and also explained the details of the İmralı meeting. Buldan indicated that Ahmet Türk would most likely be present in the meetings at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Ahmet Türk had been removed from his position as the Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality following the Interior Ministry's appointment of a trustee.

NEW STATEMENT FROM THE İMRALI DELEGATION

While the repercussions of the DEM Party's meeting with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan continue, a new statement was made by the DEM Party İmralı delegation. In the statement, it was said, "We are much more hopeful than in previous processes, and we will make a comprehensive statement in the new year."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç had announced that they responded positively to the DEM Party members' request for a meeting. Minister Tunç also stated that DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Van MP Pervin Buldan would be part of the delegation going to İmralı. Önder said, "The timing of the visit will be determined based on weather conditions. We are waiting for news. We have not yet received any information regarding the date. Most likely, we will go from Mudanya," he said.

HOW DID THE PROCESS DEVELOP?

The process began with the call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli on October 22. In his statement at the MHP's TBMM Group Meeting, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the TBMM DEM Party Group Meeting, proclaiming that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved. If he shows this determination and resolve, let the legal regulation regarding the use of the 'right to hope' be made, and let the way for him to benefit from it be opened wide."

Shortly after this statement, Bahçeli called for permission to be granted to the DEM Party delegation to go to İmralı. On November 26, the DEM Party applied to the Ministry of Justice to hold a meeting with terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı. On December 9, during the budget discussions in the TBMM, Bahçeli applauded DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan after his speech calling for a new beginning.

In his speech, Bakırhan stated, "In 2025, in the 103rd year of the Republic, we can make a new beginning. This Parliament has the chance to take on the role of founding the Democratic Republic. Let the honor of creating a country where 85 million will feel they belong belong to this Parliament."
