Former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is detained in Edirne Prison, stated in a message he shared on his social media account after a visit from the DEM Party delegation that his support for Abdullah Öcalan is complete and subtly warned Kandil, which is trying to undermine the process with provocative statements.
Demirtaş's statement is as follows;
"I send heartfelt greetings and love to everyone on the occasion of our DEM Party İmralı Delegation's visit. While expressing my gratitude to our delegation, which continues its work with great sacrifice and seriousness, I also want to state that my trust and support for them, our party DEM Party, and especially for Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, who is making great efforts for a democratic solution and peace on İmralı Isolation Island, is complete.
SUPPORT FOR ÖCALAN, WARNING TO KANDIL
The most sensitive issue of this period is public support. Therefore, transparency is extremely important and necessary. It is valuable that our delegation, as a requirement of transparency, will inform the political parties in the Parliament and, in the coming days, will also inform civil society organizations, political and social circles. Additionally, the primary aim of every step taken for peace should be to stay away from all kinds of fear, threats, blackmail, derogatory language, and provocative statements in society and public opinion, while taking maximum responsibility for peace with reassuring proposals, and to create a power and conscience-based stance that will win the goodwill of all social segments. Even though we may not appear as an actor in the process, it is both our right and responsibility to carry the process to a positive ground. The political understanding of which we are a part is the 'Democratization, Peace, and Brotherhood' process.
"WE SUPPORT THE PERMANENT END OF VIOLENCE"
As actors who engage in politics on a democratic, peaceful ground, we desire, want, and support the permanent end of conflicts and violence. We state that we will be by Mr. Öcalan's side if he takes the initiative on this matter when the conditions are met. Of course, the entire initiative of any possible call belongs to him. As he has also stated, the responsibility for creating the legal and political ground for such a call lies with the government and the parliament.
"WE WILL PROVIDE ALL KINDS OF SUPPORT FOR THE PEACE INITIATIVE"
At this stage, we will provide all kinds of support for peace initiatives. However, we are neither the ones who will make the call nor the ones who will be the addressees of a possible call. Our role and mission as politicians is to strengthen the ground for peace, to encourage and promote the parties for peace, and to facilitate peace. However, beyond that, our fundamental responsibility is to work, struggle for democracy, freedoms, equality, justice, and fundamental human rights, and to grow our country. In light of these fundamental gains and opportunities, a real ground for peace will also be established. I want to emphasize this point particularly.
"I HOPE THIS TIME THE RESULT WILL BE IN FAVOR OF PEACE"
Everyone should know that there are some preparations being carried out with good intentions and great responsibility. Everyone who intends to advance the process and ensure that we all live in peace needs to encourage and support these efforts. The repetition of methods that have been tried for years and have yielded no results will no longer benefit anyone. I hope that this time the result will be in favor of peace. However, political peace will be permanent if it is made in a way that opens all channels of the struggle for social peace, that is, democratization, equality, justice, and freedoms, and it will be beneficial for everyone and the country. In this way, the social support for political peace will also increase, and all provocations and attempts to undermine will be rendered futile with the ownership of the majority of the people.
THANKS TO ERDOĞAN, BAHÇELİ, AND ÖZEL
Again, in this critical and historic period, I express my gratitude and support to Mr. President, especially to Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, Mr. Özgür Özel, and all other party leaders for the initiatives they have taken and will take for peace. I state that I will unreservedly stand by every step that will strengthen democracy, beyond any personal or party interests.
"THE MAJORITY OF KURDS ARE FACING TOWARDS TURKEY"
Finally, I want to emphasize that the direction and face of the majority of Kurds are towards Turkey. For years, we have been relying on this truth and trying to win together based on this reality. The days are near when we will ensure that the Republic of Turkey opens its direction and face to Kurdish citizens, Kurds, and all humanity. While expressing my gratitude to our delegation once again, I send my greetings and love to all of you once more."
