Military activity is increasing in Greenland, which US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated he wants to annex to US territory. As part of its plan to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic region, Denmark has begun, for the first time, including conscripts in operations in Greenland. The first group will serve in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq.

Denmark has begun, for the first time, to include conscripts doing their mandatory military service in military activities in Greenland as part of its plan to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic region.

FIRST GROUP OF CONSCRIPTS ARRIVES IN GREENLAND

In a written statement from the Danish Ministry of Defence, it was stated that under the new system, introduced this year, which extends military service from 4 months to 11 months, conscripts will for the first time be able to receive training in Greenland, which is part of the Danish Realm.

The statement reported that the first group of conscripts has arrived in Greenland, with some soldiers set to receive training in the capital, Nuuk, and others in Kangerlussuaq.

TERRAIN TRAINING AND EXERCISES IN THE ARCTIC

In the statement, which noted that Denmark aims to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic region, it was stated that the soldiers sent to Greenland will participate in exercises that will improve their terrain skills for the challenging Arctic conditions.

It was also noted that the soldiers will operate in cooperation with their Greenlandic colleagues. In this way, the aim is for part of the mandatory military service to be carried out outside the Danish mainland, under the strategic conditions of the Arctic region.

SOLDIERS PLEASED WITH THE SITUATION

The Danish Ministry of Defence's statement also included the views of 19-year-old Krab from Copenhagen, who is undergoing training in Greenland.

Krab stated that he is extremely satisfied with performing his military service in Greenland, expressing that serving here is a unique experience for him.

MILITARY SERVICE EXTENDED TO 11 MONTHS

With the new regulation introduced in Denmark this year, mandatory military service has been extended from 4 months to 11 months.

Under the new system, it is envisaged that soldiers will undergo basic military training for the first 5 months, and then carry out operational service for 6 months in the army's real duties.

Denmark's initiation of military service in Greenland is considered one of the new steps in the country's efforts to increase its military capacity and presence in the Arctic region.
