A new period begins for teacher appointments as of September 1st. While the KPSS requirement and the oral interview practice are abolished, teacher candidates will undergo a 14-month skills-oriented and practical training at the National Education Academies. Additionally, an entrance exam consisting of quantitative and verbal questions, as well as a teaching field knowledge test, will be implemented for admission to the academy.
The Ministry of National Education is implementing a new system for teacher appointments. While the KPSS requirement is being lifted, the oral interview practice is also being discontinued. In the established National Education Academies, teacher candidates will undergo a 14-month skills-based practical training.
Preparations for the new period, which will be launched on September 1, are continuing at full speed for the employment of 10,000 teacher candidates with the National Education Academy.
"TEACHERS WILL TRAIN CANDIDATE TEACHERS"
The details regarding the academy were explained for the first time by the President of the National Education Academy, Cevdet Vural, to TRT News.
"Especially practical skills are very important for us. That is, due to the issue of how a person carries their knowledge into the classroom and how they convey it to the student audience they address, we want the academy to equip them with a set of practical skills. We will encounter a period where teachers will be involved in the teacher training process; our teachers with expert and master teacher titles will be employed as educational personnel as a result of various evaluations. Individuals with doctoral faculty member and superior titles in universities can come to us and become educational personnel."
KPSS REQUIREMENT IS LIFTED, TWO NEW EXAMS ARE COMING
From now on, the KPSS requirement will not be sought for teacher candidates. An academy entrance exam with numerical and verbal questions and a teaching field knowledge test will be applied.
In the Academy Entrance Exam, candidates will be asked 80 questions, and 110 minutes will be given. In the Teaching Field Knowledge Test, 90 minutes will be allocated for 50 questions. The success ranking of the candidates will be determined based on their exam average.
Vural provided the following information regarding the exam:
"80 questions from AGS and 50 questions from the ÖABT test will be selected based on the average of two separate tests, with 50% weight each. Our 10 foreign language fields, starting with English and French, will enter both YDS and AGS. Verbal and numerical skills will have an 18.75% weight, while the basic concepts and theories of education will have a 30% weight, 10% for geography, 10% for history, and 12.5% in this manner."
CANDIDATE TEACHERS WILL RECEIVE 14 MONTHS OF TRAINING
Teacher candidates will receive a maximum of 14 months of training. The training will be both theoretical and practical.
The success score for appointments will be determined by combining 40% of the theoretical courses and 60% of the practical courses.
The President of the National Education Academy, Cevdet Vural, stated, "Previously, we had in-service training centers as the General Directorate of Teacher Training and Development; all of these have been transformed into educational practice centers. The evaluation process for additional buildings is currently ongoing. There is a very high demand; almost all of our provinces want to open a center belonging to the academy in their own province," he said.
HERE ARE THE PROVINCES WHERE ACADEMY BUILDINGS WILL BE ESTABLISHED
İstanbul, Ankara, Erzurum, Mersin, Rize, Aksaray, and Tokat are among the main provinces where academy buildings will be established. Vural stated that additional educational centers will be opened, saying, "We will evaluate the suitability for purpose and plan the evaluation of the province that offers the most suitable conditions for the area where we plan to provide training."
