DEVA Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Emin Ekmen brought the scandal involving tons of potatoes purchased for distribution in Diyarbakır’s Bismil district to the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s agenda. Stating that after the potatoes failed to reach those in need, the foundation director was arrested, and then the chief public prosecutor and district governor were reassigned, Ekmen emphasized that the incident was being covered up. Ekmen reacted to the mentality of "Oh no, a dirty business has blown up, let's close this place immediately."

DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Mersin MP Mehmet Emin Ekmen brought to the agenda the corruption and bureaucratic crisis over tons of potatoes purchased to be distributed in the Bismil district of Diyarbakır.

Drawing attention to the investigation launched after the aid potatoes in the district were not delivered to needy citizens, Ekmen harshly criticized the steps taken after the incident.

"THEY STOOPED TO THE POTATOES OF THE POOR"

Referring to the arrest of the Director of the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation (SYDV) in Bismil and the reassignment of the District Governor and Chief Public Prosecutor, Ekmen said:

"In Bismil, they stooped to a few tons of potatoes purchased to be distributed to the poor. Upon the complaints of village heads, an investigation is opened, the foundation director is arrested, but immediately afterward the Chief Public Prosecutor and the District Governor are reassigned. If the District Governor did the right thing, why is the Chief Public Prosecutor removed from office? If the Chief Public Prosecutor did the right thing, why is the District Governor's location changed? They are acting with the understanding of 'Oh no, a scandal has blown up, let's cover it up immediately.'"

"A POWER STRUGGLE OR FRAUD"?

Emphasizing that covering up the incidents paves the way for greater irregularities, Ekmen said, "Every covered-up fraud and corruption case emboldens greater corruption. In this incident in Bismil, is there a power struggle or an irregularity? The details of the investigation conducted regarding those who set their eyes on the potatoes of the poor must be disclosed," and demanded that the public be informed by the AK Party group and the government.
