Four soldiers died and many soldiers were seriously injured in the fire that broke out at Wainwright Military Base in Canada. As the fire spread beyond the base's boundaries, Prime Minister Mark Carney described the incident as one of the greatest peacetime tragedies and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast at federal buildings.

It has been announced that 4 soldiers were killed and many seriously injured in a fire that broke out at Wainwright Military Base in the province of Alberta, Canada.

FIRE BROKE OUT AT MILITARY BASE

According to a report by CBC News, Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty stated at a press conference that a fire had broken out at Wainwright Base and that there were deaths and injuries in the fire. McGuinty, who did not comment on the cause of the fire and emphasized that the situation remains sensitive, reported that the incident was being closely monitored.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also stated in a post on the social media account of the US-based company X that a serious incident occurred at the military base, causing a large fire, and expressed his sorrow for the military personnel affected by the incident.

FIRE SPREAD BEYOND MILITARY BASE BOUNDARIES

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith described the fire as “serious and tragic” and noted that the incident affected many military personnel. The Wainwright Municipal District administration provided information that the fire spread beyond the military base boundaries into the area and advanced rapidly due to strong winds.

Because of the fire, which fire and emergency teams from multiple agencies responded to, residents of the area were called upon to stay away from the scene and not to block the passage of emergency vehicles.

The Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating the cause and details of the incident.

4 SOLDIERS LOST THEIR LIVES

Hours after his first statement, Prime Minister Carney shared updated information about the incident at a press conference held in the capital, Ottawa.

Carney, who reported that it has so far been confirmed that 4 soldiers lost their lives in the fire, stated that many soldiers were seriously injured.

Carney described the incident as “one of the greatest peacetime tragedies for the forces on Canadian soil” and noted that he had ordered flags at federal buildings to be lowered to half-mast.

The military base located near the Wainwright area in the province of Alberta is among the country’s important military training centers and hosts training activities where personnel prepare for combat operations.
