A passenger train carrying 800 people collided with a van at a railway crossing in Russia. As a result of 8 wagons derailing, at least 2 people lost their lives while nearly 100 people were injured.
The Russian media reported that at least 2 people died and around 100 people were injured when a passenger train carrying 800 people collided with a truck, causing 8 wagons to derail. Horrifying images emerged of the wagons overlapping each other by the railway side.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the train, traveling from Kazan in Tatarstan to Adler on the Black Sea coast, derailed near the Kotelnikovo station in the south of the Volgograd region, approximately 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) south of Moscow.
HEALTH WORKERS AT THE SCENE
The Ministry announced that health workers have arrived at the scene, with 324 emergency workers participating in the operation and emergency helicopters taking off.
PASSENGERS TRAPPED UNDER THE TRAIN
While some passengers were trapped inside the wagons, those who managed to escape awaited assistance from the teams. It was observed that some passengers were trapped under the train. Officials warned that the death toll in the horrific accident could increase.
