In Spain's Basque Region, reporter Sergio Ovejero and a cameraman, who were reporting on the danger at sea, were hit by a giant wave during a live broadcast. The wave, which overflowed the coastal protective wall, reached the point where the reporter and technical team were located, and the screens were suddenly covered with water. When the broadcast was cut off, great concern was felt in the studio.

While describing the violent waves at sea during a live broadcast, the reporter found himself in the middle of danger seconds later. When the giant wave overtopped the protective wall, the broadcast was cut off, and moments of fear were experienced in the studio.

GIANT WAVE CAME WHILE HE WAS DESCRIBING THE DANGER AT SEA

The severe weather conditions affecting Ondarroa on the coast of Spain's Basque Country caused moments of fear during a television channel's live broadcast. Reporter Sergio Ovejero, who was doing a live link from the coastline for the 'Euskadi Quédate' program broadcast on ETB2, was describing the storm that was increasing its effect in the region and the rising waves. As Ovejero relayed warnings to citizens on the coastal promenade, the waves at sea grew increasingly violent. One of the powerful waves striking the breakwater overtopped the protective wall on the coast and reached the point where the reporter and cameraman were located.

GIANT WAVE CAUGHT REPORTER AND CAMERAMAN OFF GUARD

Everything happened within a few seconds. The giant wave that overtopped the protective wall hit reporter Sergio Ovejero and the technical team beside him. When the seawater reached the shore with great force, the camera image suddenly changed. The live link was cut off as the screens were covered with water and foam. The inability to get an image from the reporter, who until that moment had been describing the danger at sea, worried the presenter in the studio. In the last images reflected on the camera during the broadcast, it was seen that the ground was completely covered with foamy seawater.

THE LIVE BROADCAST WAS CUT OFF, AND THE PRESENTER COULD NOT HIDE HIS CONCERN

After the giant wave reached the broadcast team, the connection being cut caused brief panic in the studio. The program's presenter began following developments to get news from the reporter and technical team. Expressing his concern over what happened, the presenter used the words, 'We hope our colleagues Sergio and Raquel are okay. We will report the developments immediately.' The unexpected end of the live link and the inability to get news from the reporter raised questions about the team's health condition in the first moments of the incident.

WHAT WAS FEARED DID NOT HAPPEN! GOOD NEWS FROM THE TEAM

Information came about the condition of the reporter and technical team after the fearful moments during the live broadcast. It was stated that the incident did not result in a serious situation for the team hit by the giant wave. Thus, after the concern in the studio, there was a sigh of relief.
