The images of violence that emerged in a nursing home in Beylikdüzü have wounded consciences. The footage showed moments where nursing home staff pushed an elderly patient, causing them to fall and hit their head, and another elderly patient was spat on in the face. The Ministry of Family and Social Services stated in its statement on the matter that the staff have been dismissed and that a judicial investigation into the incident is ongoing.
An incident that wounded consciences occurred at Huzur Vadisi Care Center located on Gardenta Street in Kavaklı Neighborhood, Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul. According to allegations, care center employees were caught on camera mistreating and using violence against patients.
PUSHES ONE ELDERLY PERSON TO THE GROUND, SPITS ON ANOTHER'S FACE Security camera footage showed a patient being pushed and falling to the ground, resulting in a wound on the patient's head area. Another cell phone video, allegedly taken at the same center, showed a care worker spitting on an elderly patient's face. According to allegations, no action was taken against any personnel after the incidents. It was claimed that the patient subjected to violence was referred to the hospital with a report stating that he had hit his own head.
SCABIES CASES FREQUENTLY OCCUR While it was alleged that the images were later deleted from the institution's cameras, it was also claimed that hygiene problems at the care center had been ongoing for a long time. It was alleged that scabies cases frequently occurred at the institution and did not end due to the care center not being clean.
FORMER EMPLOYEE SPEAKS Havin Nur Kuş, a former employee of the institution where violence was inflicted on patients, said, "I worked as a health personnel at the mentioned care center for about 8 months. I resigned on April 27, and about two or three hours after my resignation, such violence was inflicted on a patient under my responsibility during my employment. The pushed patient falls and gets a wound on his head. Because of the wound, it is covered up to prevent it from becoming a legal case or police involvement. The patient is admitted to Bakırköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital on the same day. They say he broke his own head. Camera recordings are deleted. A friend retrieves the camera recording before it is deleted, and I get it from my friend. On the day I got it, I already handed over the camera recordings to the relevant authorities in the morning. Since our founder changed at the institution, there has been constant mobbing, and their attitude towards staff was not good at all. As I said, I was a health personnel there, and our care personnel would say things we would never tolerate and engage in behaviors that never occurred. We endured these. This is not just one incident. In the second incident, a care personnel again spits on my patient. Our care personnel spits on the patient, our friend who recorded the video presents the footage to the manager as required, and the manager only says, 'Don't do such things' and does nothing else. There is no report or warning in our hands at all. It is already an establishment where scabies cases never end. Whenever an inspection comes to the institution, whether from health or social security, they warn that scabies cases are not ending."
