THE IMPORTANCE OF MANBIJ

Clearing Manbij of the terrorist organization is of great importance for Turkey as well. Located 30 km west of the Euphrates River, Manbij was first captured by the opposition in 2012 during the Syrian Civil War, later came under the control of ISIS in 2014, and was occupied by PKK/YPG in 2016.

OPERATION DAWN OF FREEDOM

With the operation launched by the regime-opposing armed groups towards Aleppo on November 27, the Syrian regime forces collaborated with the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, handing over some areas to the group. The terrorist organization began to fortify these areas by bringing reinforcements from the east of the Euphrates River to the Aleppo region. In response to preparations for establishing a terrorist corridor between Tal Rifaat and Manbij, the Syrian National Army launched the Dawn of Freedom Operation against PKK/YPG yesterday. After surrounding the district of Tal Rifaat, the center of the district was liberated from terrorism.

THE OCCUPATION OF TAL RIFAT BY PKK/YPG

YPG/PKK terrorists captured Tal Rifaat and some surrounding settlements in February 2016 with the support of Russian airstrikes. The terrorist organization displaced approximately 250,000 civilians from Tal Rifaat and its surroundings, with this population seeking refuge in areas close to the Turkish border. YPG/PKK launched attacks from here against the Turkish security forces and opposition fighters securing the areas of the Euphrates Shield Operation and Olive Branch Operation. The terrorist organization PKK/YPG, which occupied the district of Tal Rifaat, tried to hold the district by cooperating with the Bashar al-Assad regime and its supporters. After the regime-opposing armed groups entered the center of Aleppo on November 29, the regime forces withdrew their elements from Tal Rifaat.
