Construction works on the 4.5-kilometer axis that will extend the Çekmeköy – Sancaktepe Metro to Sultanbeyli have been completed. Announcing that the line will start serving Istanbulites before Eid al-Adha, İBB Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan said, “This is my call to our President and all politicians; let's come together at the opening, join hands, and be united.”

Nuri Aslan, Deputy Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), conducted inspections on the Çekmeköy – Sancaktepe – Sultanbeyli Metro, which is nearing completion.

“LET US COME TOGETHER AT THE OPENING”

Stating that despite all the difficulties in the world, continuing these processes under any conditions and opening this line is the best example of how Turkey can produce and develop, Nuri Aslan said that being able to travel by metro between Samandıra and Sultanbeyli is an important step for Istanbul's transportation problem.

Aslan said, “I call upon all elected officials and bureaucrats of Istanbul; from our Governor to our district governors, from our mukhtars to our provincial directors, to our President, to the leaders of our political parties and all members of parliament: Let us join hands and be together. Let us have a magnificent opening on the Sultanbeyli – Sancaktepe metro line, with all state officials and political parties together.”

HE DID NOT FORGET PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN AND KADIR TOPBAŞ

Reminding that the Üsküdar-Çekmeköy Metro was a line built before 2019, Aslan said:

“I express my gratitude on behalf of the people of Istanbul to Ahmet İsvan, Bedrettin Dalan, Nurettin Sözen, our then-mayor and current President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Kadir Topbaş, and of course Ekrem İmamoğlu, all the political and bureaucratic colleagues who worked with them, and everyone who contributed.”

ÜSKÜDAR – SULTANBEYLİ DISTANCE WILL DROP TO 50 MINUTES

Nuri Aslan, who stated that they visited the metro construction site and inspected the work on site, and that everything seems ready, said, “Final touches and landscaping are being done. Hopefully, we will open the 4.5-kilometer Sancaktepe – Sultanbeyli line within May. Thus, a citizen living in Sultanbeyli will be able to go to Üsküdar and back in 50 minutes.”

7 METRO CONSTRUCTIONS CONTINUE

Stating that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has made large investments in the metro area to solve the city's accessibility problem, Aslan said, “Currently, exactly seven metro line constructions are ongoing in Istanbul. God willing, when we open this line in May, that number will drop to six.”

HE ALSO GAVE A DATE FOR THE FINANSKENT METRO

Aslan, who said that construction continues on 7 metro lines in Istanbul, said, “God willing, when we open this line in May, that number will drop to six. By the end of this year, we will also complete another line by opening the Ümraniye – Ataşehir – Göztepe Metro, which passes through Finanskent.”

DRIVERLESS METRO TECHNOLOGY

Nuri Aslan was accompanied on the visit by Sancaktepe Mayor Alper Yeğin, Çekmeköy Mayor Orhan Çerkez, and Sultanbeyli Deputy Mayor Abdullah Yüksel.

Providing information about the project, IMM Deputy Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin said, “On this line, which has driverless metro technology, when I first started; we talked a lot about ‘How can we open this line with our colleagues, how can we find its credit, how can we phase it?’ We truly fulfilled all our goals step by step. We will use four-car train sets on this line. Since the line has been extended, we also pulled vehicles from the other line to increase passenger capacity. Currently, all signal tests of our line have been completed, and we have received our international transportation certificate. Right now, we are testing the vehicles we will add additionally. By taking passengers on this line, we will also reorganize our IETT vehicles to rid the region of plastic-wheeled vehicles and ease the traffic above.”
