In a drone attack by Ukrainian forces on a bus stop where Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant personnel were located, 1 person was killed and 17 were injured. IAEA Director General Grossi called the attack 'unacceptable' and stated that the plant's safety had been jeopardized. The facility, under Russian control, has repeatedly faced nuclear risks due to conflicts since March 2022.
One person was killed and 17 others were injured in a drone attack on a bus stop used by personnel of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
In a statement made by the plant on Tuesday, it was stated, "Ukrainian forces targeted a public transport stop in the city of Energodar. Plant personnel waiting for buses to go to their shifts were at the stop during the attack."
"AN UNACCEPTABLE ACT"
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said the attack, which he described as "an unacceptable act," jeopardized the safety of the plant.
Noting that such actions contradict the agency's principles, Grossi drew attention to the fact that the ongoing conflict environment poses serious risks to the nuclear safety and security of the plant.
UNDER RUSSIAN CONTROL SINCE 2022
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of Europe's largest nuclear facilities, has been under Russian control since March 2022. The facility has faced nuclear safety risks numerous times since the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.
