Drug trafficking emerged behind the horror in Eyüpsultan, where a taxi driver was beaten with a rope around his neck. It was learned that the suspects gathered due to drug trafficking and the assault occurred as a result of a disagreement. While search efforts for the suspects, aged 19 and 20, continue, the driver's treatment is ongoing.
The Istanbul Police Department announced that an investigation has been launched into the taxi driver attack that occurred in the Karadolap neighborhood of Eyüpsultan district, which was captured on the vehicle's camera. According to information obtained from police sources, commercial taxi driver Gökhan A. (29) went to a designated location to meet individuals he had contacted to purchase narcotics.
DRUG TRAFFICKING EMERGED BEHIND THE INCIDENT
During police investigations, it was determined that two suspects, M.Y. (20) and Y.B.K. (19), boarded the taxi. According to allegations, a dispute arose between the parties over a substance transaction. It was found that the suspects demanded money and then assaulted the taxi driver.
HORROR ON THE DASH CAM
The incident was recorded moment by moment by the taxi's dash camera. The footage shows one of the two suspects who got into the taxi placing a rope around the driver's neck, after which the suspects suddenly attacked the taxi driver. The footage includes moments when one suspect records with a mobile phone, and later another suspect damages the dash camera with his hand.
The injured taxi driver's treatment is still ongoing.
SEARCH FOR SUSPECTS CONTINUES
While police teams are continuing their investigations into the incident, which initially came to light with claims of "robbery," it has been reported that operations to apprehend M.Y. and Y.B.K., whose identities have been determined, are ongoing.

The Istanbul Taxi Drivers Chamber of Tradesmen made a statement on its social media account regarding the issue. The statement said, "Last night around 9:00 PM, our esteemed taxi tradesman G.A., working in vehicle with license plate 34 T. 8, was severely assaulted and robbed by two individuals he picked up in Yeşilpınar. In our conversation with our colleague's family, we learned that he is currently under treatment in the hospital and, thank God, his condition is not serious. We extend our 'get well soon' wishes to our colleague. We state that we are closely following the issue and respectfully request that the authorities apprehend the perpetrators as soon as possible and bring them to justice."
