Galatasaray President Dursun Ozbek addressed the red-and-yellow fans ahead of the new season, which will begin with the Corum FK match. Emphasizing the goal of a 5th consecutive championship, Ozbek also sent a message to fans awaiting transfers: 'A little more patience. We won't wait much longer for developments that will excite us all.'
Galatasaray will open the new season in the Trendyol Süper Lig with a home match against Çorum FK. Before the match, the president of the red-yellow club, Dursun Özbek, released a statement prior to the game.
Dursun Özbek's statement made via Galatasaray's official website is as follows:
"Dear Galatasaray fans,
Today, we begin a new season by playing our first match at home. On this journey we started four years ago, we have experienced the pride and joy of four consecutive championships. Over these four years, alongside happiness we will never forget, we also experienced sorrows and worries. But there was one thing that never changed at the end of each season: Galatasaray won.
Now, we have the opportunity to make history. This season is one of the most important seasons in Galatasaray's history for all of us. Because for the first time in our professional league history, we have the chance to become champions for the fifth consecutive time and achieve a success we have never reached before.
What we have accomplished over the past four years is now a thing of the past. Our trophies are in our museum, and our championships have taken their place in our history. Now it is time for the fifth championship. I know that today, some of you are coming to our stadium or taking your place in front of the television, dreaming of something better, something more. As someone who began dreaming these dreams with you years ago, I am the happiest person about this. One of the things that makes Galatasaray great is that its fans never consider any success sufficient.
I only ask you to remember one thing. This team has not only defeated its rivals over the past four years. It defeated hopelessness. It defeated the thoughts that said "This time it won't happen." It defeated those who said "They can't do it." It fought on the field and also defeated the games played against it. It fell, and got back up. It fell behind, and caught up. It grew tired, but kept fighting, and in the end, it lifted that trophy four times in a row. Because Galatasaray's greatest strength is not just the eleven footballers who step onto the field.
Galatasaray's greatest strength is the millions who believe in it. This team achieved its greatest successes when it was united as one heart with its community. When the first whistle blows tonight, a new story will begin. But we know very well what we want. We want to be champions for the fifth consecutive time.
