The Ministry of Trade's regulation regarding vehicles temporarily brought from abroad has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force. With the amendment, while the scope of the retirement certificate for vehicles that retirees from abroad can use in Turkey for up to 730 days has been redefined, new rules have also been introduced for the use of vehicles by spouses or certain relatives.
The Ministry of Trade's "Communiqué on the Amendment to the Customs General Communiqué on Temporarily Imported Road Vehicles" was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
A 730-DAY PERIOD HAS BEEN GRANTED
According to the existing provisions of the Communiqué, persons residing outside the Turkish Customs Territory, including those who retired with disability and those who earned the right to early retirement, who retire from abroad, are granted a 730-day period for their vehicles, provided they submit their retirement document.
THE DEFINITION OF THE RETIREMENT DOCUMENT HAS BEEN REDEFINED
With the amendment to the Communiqué, the definition of the retirement document to be submitted has been redefined. Accordingly, a document issued in accordance with the social security legislation of the relevant country, earned based on employment, by persons proving that they retired from abroad, along with its Turkish translation approved by an embassy, consulate, or notary, will be accepted as a retirement document.
IT CAN ALSO BE USED BY SPOUSES OR RELATIVES
With the Communiqué, the principles regarding persons who will use the vehicle other than the right holder have also been redefined. Accordingly, vehicles temporarily imported by benefiting from touristic facilities may be used by the spouse or relatives of the permit holder whose place of residence is outside Turkey. It will also be possible for such vehicles to be used by persons whose place of residence is outside Turkey, provided that the permit holder is present in the vehicle.
