Eight children were hospitalized after being poisoned by a wild plant known as "güzelavrat" in the community. A pediatrician stated that three of the children experienced hallucinations, one had a seizure, and the others showed signs of elevated body temperature and dry mouth. The doctor urged families, saying, "We must definitely warn our children about the effects of these plants."

Eight children who consumed a wild herb known as "güzelavrat" among the locals in Kars and that grows spontaneously in the fields were poisoned in the districts of Arpaçay and Kağızman. Six of the children, whose treatments were completed at Kars Harakani State Hospital, were discharged, while one is under observation and the treatment of another continues in the ward.

HALLUCINATIONS, SEIZURES, TACHYCARDIA...

Dr. Aslı Sezal Çubukçu, a specialist in Child Health and Diseases, stated that the children were admitted to the emergency room after being poisoned last night, saying, "The wild herb known as 'güzelavrat' or 'deli bat bat' is an endemic plant species found in provinces such as Kars, Ardahan, Erzurum, and Erzincan in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Children may unknowingly consume it or mistake it for another herb they have eaten, leading to poisoning. Symptoms observed in patients include fever, dryness in the mouth and skin, hallucinations, seizures, tachycardia, and arrhythmia," she said.

Dr. Çubukçu stated, "In the three patients who came to us, we detected hallucinations in one, seizures in another, and fever and dryness in the mouth in the other patients. We are keeping the patient who had a seizure under observation in the ward. We must definitely warn our children about the effects of these plants," she emphasized.

The grandfather of S.A. (6), who had a seizure and is being kept under observation in the Children's Ward, Şakir Aydın, said, "We live in Paslı village, which is connected to the Kağızman district. Last night, the child was poisoned by the plant he ate, and we brought him to the hospital when he became unwell. He has been checked and is being kept under observation; his condition is good," he said.
