Dr. Ekrem Teymur, Chairman of the Board of News.com, made noteworthy statements regarding the trade wars between the United States and China. Teymur noted that it is not possible for President Trump to bring China to its knees by imposing tariffs and sanctions as he did before. He pointed out that Trump's job is difficult, stating, "I believe this will be completely over in 90 days."
Chairman of Haberler.com, Dr. Ekrem Teymur, analyzed the increasing tension with China in the trade war that began with U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff package. Evaluating the resurgence of the tariff-based trade war between the world's two largest economies, which has been ongoing for years, Teymur made striking statements regarding the new sanctions.
"THE PHONES USED BY AMERICANS ARE MANUFACTURED IN CHINA"
Stating that Trump imposed tariffs to eliminate the trade deficit, Teymur reminded that the U.S. has increased tariffs on China by 145%, while China has raised its tariffs by 125%. Questioning whether the trade deficit has the meaning of exploiting the U.S. economy as Trump thinks, Teymur said, "None of the iPhone phones we currently carry in our pockets are produced in America. They are all produced in China. Therefore, the phones used by Americans are also on the list of products exported from China to America."
"ALTHOUGH THE U.S. SEEMS TO BE LOSING, IT IS ACTUALLY MAKING HUGE PROFITS"
Clarifying the implications of the extra tax imposed by Trump, Teymur stated, "When these shoes, these phones, these technology products enter America, the costs will increase due to the extra customs duties, and consequently, the sales prices in stores will rise. This means inflationary pressure, which means these companies will make less profit, and thus the economy will suffer. For this reason, on the day Trump made his first announcement, the stock markets were in turmoil. In fact, although America seems to be losing a bit due to the trade deficit with China and these Southeast Asian countries, it is actually making enormous profits. In other words, it costs 3 there, but sells to the whole world for 20 or 30."
"ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE ISSUE IS AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS"
Pointing out that "another aspect of the issue is agriculture, agricultural products," Teymur recalled that in 2018, the U.S. imposed additional restrictions on the sale of certain technology products and metals like aluminum to China, and in response, China took steps to impose extra tariffs on some U.S. products, limiting their entry into the country.
Evaluating soybeans among these products, Teymur stated, "Soybeans are America's largest agricultural production. It is a product that contributes $124 billion annually to America, and the U.S. alone produces and exports 30% of the soybeans produced and sold worldwide. China is the largest buyer. China alone purchases between 50-60% of the soybeans imported worldwide."
"AMERICA WAS THE ONE TO SUFFER FROM THE FIRST STANDOFF"
Teymur said, "When Trump took these measures against China in his first term, China initially responded by imposing extra tariffs on soybeans and turned to Brazil for soybean purchases, another major producing country. As a result, what happened? The U.S. lost its leadership in soybean production and exports to Brazil. America was the one to suffer from this first standoff. Brazil benefited from this situation. So what happened to China? It turned to other alternative markets to secure its supply."
"THIS WILL BE COMPLETELY OVER IN 90 DAYS"
Emphasizing that Trump's job is difficult, Teymur concluded his remarks with the following statements: "In summary, it is no longer possible for Trump to bring a country to its knees, especially China, by imposing tariffs and sanctions like before. Neither is America the old America, a country that holds the world economy in its hands, nor is China a small country that can have its economy, trade, and balance shaken by a single embargo. Therefore, Trump's job is tough. He has already postponed the extra tariffs imposed on countries other than China for 90 days. Additionally, he has relaxed the extra tariffs imposed on China, excluding technology products and some other items. I believe this issue will be completely resolved in 90 days."
