Despite Fluctuations in the Cryptocurrency Market, El Salvador Continues Bitcoin Purchases

El Salvador has increased its total holdings to 6,068 Bitcoins by continuing its purchases despite fluctuations in the cryptocurrency markets. The value of the country's digital asset portfolio has surpassed 554 million dollars with the latest purchases.

According to a statement from the country's Bitcoin Office, 11 Bitcoins were purchased at an average price of 101,816 dollars in a transaction conducted on February 4. Approximately 1.1 million dollars were spent for this purchase, followed by an additional transaction where 1 more Bitcoin was acquired for 99,114 dollars.

In information shared on the social media platform X, the Bitcoin Office announced that it had purchased 21 Bitcoins in the last week and a total of 60 Bitcoins in the last 30 days. The office stated, "The world's first Strategic Bitcoin Reserve continues to grow, and El Salvador continues to win."

According to market data, Bitcoin fell to as low as 96,000 dollars in the last 24 hours but rebounded to rise to the 98,000 dollar level. According to CoinGecko's data, the cryptocurrency's daily high remained below 100,700 dollars.

On the other hand, following the 1.4 billion dollar agreement signed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last month by El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele, the country made some changes to its Bitcoin policies. In this context, the use of Bitcoin by the private sector has become optional, while the use of the state-supported Chivo crypto wallet has been reduced.

In recent weeks, the El Salvador Congress quickly approved a bill proposing changes to Bitcoin laws in line with the IMF agreement. Nevertheless, National Bitcoin Office Director Stacy Herbert emphasized in a statement made at the end of December that there was no change in the country's Bitcoin purchasing strategy. The office spokesperson stated that El Salvador would continue its Bitcoin purchases and that its plans would be shaped with a focus on 2025.
