With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz triggering a global energy crisis, India has been forced to take radical measures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the public to make a series of savings in order to minimize gasoline and diesel consumption.
"METRO AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT MUST BE OUR PRIORITY"
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that transportation habits in particular need to change. Asking citizens living in cities with metro lines to leave their personal vehicles and turn entirely to the metro, Modi said, "We should travel by metro as much as possible." As the Prime Minister of the world's most populous country, Modi proposed a "shared vehicle" system for those who must drive, stating that vehicles should be filled to full capacity.
A RAILWAY ERA IN LOGISTICS
Pointing to railways to reduce fuel dependency in logistics operations, Modi said, "We should carry out our goods shipments as much as possible via electrified railway lines. This way, we can eliminate the need for gasoline and diesel." Additionally, electric vehicle owners were asked to use their vehicles more actively than ever.
CORONA SYSTEMS RETURN: WORKING FROM HOME
Stating that the digital habits gained during the pandemic period need to be reactivated for the country's interests, Modi made the following call:
"Working from home, video conferences, and virtual meetings... We are at a time when we need to prioritize these systems again. We have to initiate these digital arrangements to protect the country's economy."
